BRIEF HISTORY OF Maruman Corporation

1920

Established in Tokyo, specialized in manufacturing and selling patented sketchbooks to approx. 600 junior high schools in Japan.

1944

Suspended company operations due to intensified World War II.

1947

Reopened operations.

1949

Restarted the production of sketchbooks, even though at that time after the war the materials were extremely scarce. Started selling to the art materials wholesalers.

1954

Joined the Tokyo Paper Products Association, and expanded sales of sketchbooks to stationery market.

1960

Developed spiral notebooks in five colors which had never existed in Japan before. These were produced by a new style fully automatic machine which created a sensation in the market because of its high performance and practicality.

1962

Acquired a new plant with major production capacity in Kanagawa Pref.
Office supplies were added as new items to the range.

1967

Developed an epoch-making innovative binding mechanism in plastic.

1968

Started production of file notebooks with plastic binding mechanism and loose-leaf refills.

1974

Established Miyazaki maruman in Miyazaki Pref.
to prepare for expected future demand.

1980

Signed a license agreement with Wilson Jones in Chicago for production and sales of their patented binding metals with locking mechanism called DUBLLOCK BINDER.

1989

Completed a large warehouse and a distribution center in Sagami Plant for more effective distribution.
Started the production and sales of laminated-tab indexes and plastic-made insertable indexes.

1991

Niigata plant was founded at Shiozawa-machi in Niigata Pref. in accordance with invitation from Niigata Pref.

1996

Launched German clear pockets.

1999

Innovated a new system which can detach DUBLLOCK BINDERS from the file cover for separate disposal.

2004

Started taking part in Paperworld Frankfurt.

2007

Closed Niigata plant.
Expanded the plant in Miyazaki maruman.
